Mayoral Welcome to Taranaki
As representatives of i-SITEs across New Zealand, you’ll be well versed with the very best things to see, do, accommodation providers, and places to eat in your own regions. We look forward to taking this opportunity to introduce or reacquaint you with all the incredible things on offer here in Taranaki.
You will have heard about the Lonely Planet award, which judged Taranaki as the world’s second-best regional tourism destination in 2017. That award focused on a number of new tourism developments, notably the Pouakai Crossing and the Len Lye Centre.
Importantly, the award also celebrated the people and the places that contribute to the region’s tourism sector and wider community. These welcoming and passionate advocates for our region were central to that award and to Taranaki’s rapid growth as a visitor destination.
We encourage you to explore beyond the conference and to sample all that Taranaki has to offer. You’ll discover a region full of secrets just waiting to be discovered.

The region 'Like no other'
In 2017, Lonely Planet judged Taranaki one of the world’s top regional destinations, labelling the region an “undiscovered gem.”
At the heart of the vibrant region stands picture perfect Mount Taranaki, offering over 200km of walking tracks and spectacular views. Beneath the peak sit beautiful parks, spectacular gardens and fascinating museums, all wrapped with a sparkling coast offering beaches and surf breaks.
New Plymouth is a surprisingly cool destination, with a lot to offer, while the smaller towns around the mountain offer a friendly welcome and access to the mountain, surf, or historic heartland.
Welcome to the region like no other. We’ve prepared a number of experiences and adventures to give you a glimpse of just what’s so special about this region.
